Coalition Members Endorse House Bills Ahead of Upcoming Committee Vote

Members of the PA Housing Choices Coalition endorse legislation to allow Accessory Dwelling Units across the commonwealth and modernize occupancy laws. Full endorsement letters are attached below.

The PA Housing Choices Coalition is a statewide partnership of more than 50 organizations, convened by 10,000 Friends of Pennsylvania and the Housing Alliance of Pennsylvania. Our members include housing advocates, planners, business leaders, human service providers, and community organizations committed to expanding access to safe, attainable homes across the Commonwealth.

Pennsylvania faces a severe housing shortage that is driving up costs and making it harder for people to stay in their communities. A 2025 article from Pew notes that zoning and land use reforms that allow more homes to be built are broadly popular, including among older adults. More than seven in ten older adults say they want to age in place. Yet without enough housing supply or flexibility in how existing homes can be used, many seniors are being priced out of their own neighborhoods.

For these reasons, the partners of the Pennsylvania Housing Choices Coalition respectfully urge your support for HB 2186 and HB 2109. Thank you for your leadership and consideration of this important legislation.

Sincerely,

Stacie Reidenbaugh, 10,000 Friends of PA | Co-Chair, PA Housing Choices Coalition

Phyllis Chamberlain, Housing Alliance of PA | Co-Chair, PA Housing Choices Coalition
